Losing tummy fat is something that many people, especially women, are obsessed with achieving.  Week after week and month after month, the top women’s magazines usually have at least one article featured on the cover that talks about losing tummy fat.

When it comes to losing fat, there are some things that you need to take into account before deciding on a course of action.

You Can’t “Spot Reduce” When Trying to Lose Tummy Fat

Contrary to what many of those articles will tell you, you’re not going to be able to specifically target fat on your tummy.  When your body decides to burn fat, it makes the choice of where to take the fat from and it has more to do with genetics than doing sit-ups every day.

The reason why the magazines, fitness infomercials, and diet pill suppliers tell you that you can target specific areas for fat loss is because they know that is what you want to hear.  If they tell you what you want to hear and claim that their product can give it to you, then you’d be more likely to buy it.

That’s not to say that trying to lose tummy fat is a lost cause.  It just means that you will have to be prepared to lose fat across your entire body while you are losing tummy fat.

Losing Tummy Fat Through Body Recomposition

While you can’t make your body burn fat from specific parts, you can actively do something called “body recomposition”.   Body composition is the breakdown of the different types of body tissue (fat, muscle, skin, etc.) that you currently have.  By using exercises that specifically target your tummy, you can change its composition – basically shifting the majority of the body tissue to muscle.

As you do so, your body’s metabolism will increase and you will burn more calories throughout the day.  This will have a direct effect on your efforts at losing tummy fat!  Not only that, as you become leaner, your midsection will look more toned because of the new muscle you have built there!

As mentioned before, muscle is a big key to eliminating excess fat.  This is due to two reasons.  The first is that the exercises used for strength training burn a lot of calories.  The second is that muscle requires more calories for your body to maintain.  This means that your body will burn more calories even when you are not working out!

Losing Tummy Fat Tip #2 – Eliminate Processed Food (Or at Least Most of It)

Highly processed foods are terrible for your body.  In fact, there are theories that processed “low fat” foods are worse than natural, high fat foods!

This is because processed foods are not easily broken down by your body.  The excess that your body is not able to use is then stored as fat or worse, health-damaging chemicals, in your body.  The best thing for you to do is stay away from processed foods whenever possible.

That means choosing butter over margarine…

Fruit juices without added sugar over sodas…

Fresh meats over pre-packed meals…

Doing these things will make a huge difference in losing tummy fat.
